Did you realize that malaria is the leading cause of death of children in Africa, killing nearly one million children each year. Every day 3,000 children die from malaria. That comes down to one death every 30 seconds. That’s the bad news. The good news is that most of those deaths can be prevented by a pretty simple device - a bed net. Studies show that use of insecticide-treated bed nets can reduce transmission as much as 90% in areas with high coverage rates. Bed nets prevent malaria transmission by creating a protective barrier against mosquitoes at night. As a part of our Missions Committee efforts here at Community of Joy, we are taking this as our global initiative for this year. Send a Net - Save a Life is not just a slogan, it is a reality. For $10, a net will be sent to one of the stricken areas and at least one life will be saved (often more than one person sleeps under such a net - saving more than one life.)
