AUGUST COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES                                                                            August 9, 2006

Members present:  Carla Olson, Jerry Barnoske, Mary Lou Caden, John Tidquist, Bonnie Kierstyn, Les Daniels, Lance Miller, Pastor Veit, Al Ness, Jim Owens and June Palmquist.  Absent:  Jan Folstad and Eileen Miller.


1.  DEVOTIONS
     Led by Jerry Barnoske.  John Tidquist will have them in September.

2.  MINUTES - as printed - June Palmquist
     Motion by Mary Lou Caden, seconded by John Tidquist to approve minutes as printed.  Carried.

  1. COMMITTEE REPORTS

     A.  CHRISTIAN EDUCATION -
Bonnie Kierstyn
           1.  Pastor Veit reported on the Synod meeting on Education to be held August 12th.  Because of the short notice, no council members will attend.

     
B.  BUSINESS SERVICES - Jim Owens for Jan Folstad
           1.  Jan is working on documents, resolution, etc. that are to be kept in a secure place in the church.
           2.  Deadline for newsletter is August 25th.

     
C.  EVANGELISM - as printed - Carla Olson
           1.   Carla has developed a new C-Joy brochure and business card.  Both will be distributed at the Community Fair in September.

     
D.  FINANCE - Les Daniels
           1.  Committee will meet in September to begin work on budget and fall Stewardship program.

     
E.  MISSIONS - as printed - Mary Lou Caden
           1.  $941 was collected for Oaks Indian Center
           2.  $100 was collected for Ouachita Children's Center.

     
F.  MUTUAL MINISTRY - as printed - Jerry Barnoske
          1.  Need leaders for Cottage Groups.
          2.  Need a way to keep track of attendance.  Purpose is not to keep track of members attending church, but as a means to identify who is not attending.

     
G.  PROPERTY - John Tidquist
           1.  The cabinet for the sound board system was built and donated by Fred Ekstrand.
          2.  "Weekly Security/Energy Coordinator" - a

new non-paying position created for a person to see the church is secure after the services.  Need members to sign up for this.
          3.  Use of parking lot - When people use the parking lot for a non-church function, permission needs to be obtained from John Tidquist, Property Chair.  Church office also needs to be notified.
          4.  Still waiting for landscaper to finish job.

   
H.  WORSHIP AND MUSIC  - as printed
          1.  Meeting August 18th for Hymn Selections - need volunteers for this.

4.  CORRESPONDENCE
     
a.  "Thank You" from the Village Singles Club for use of parking lot.

5.  PASTOR'S REPORT - as printed
     a.  Three families will be joining C-Joy.
     b.  Requested weekends of October 21 and October 29th off.
         
Motion by Mary Lou, seconded by Carla Olson to grant this request.  Carried.

6.  TREASURER'S REPORT -
as printed - Al Ness
     a.  Al will be gone for a period of time, Les Daniels will write checks as needed.

7.  OLD BUSINESS
     
a.  Call Committee Report - Telephone interviews have been completed for three of the four candidates.
     b.  Candidates are from Ohio, Missouri, Oklahoma and Colorado.  Ages range is from 52-64.
     c.  Several members of the Call Committee will visit the candidate's church.

8.  NEW BUSINESS
     1.  Call Committee Budget - Lance will talk to Chairman Fred Klaisner about this.
     2.  Suggestion Box - suggest a hand sanitizer to be used before communion.  Pastor Veit does this.
     3.  Next meeting will be Wednesday, September 13th at 6:00 P.M.

9.  ADJOURNMENT
     1.  Motion by Mary Lou, seconded by Bonnie to adjourn.  Carried.
          Meeting closed with the Lord's Prayer.
