Most of you are aware of my love of humor. I think humor is essential to our lives and to our daily well-being. With that in mind I would like to share this story with you. Keep in mind that one of our liturgical responses is: “and also with you.”
It seems that there was a pastoral intern who was very nervous when it |
|
came time to officiate at his first service. He thought he might forget some of the words or leave things out and just make a shambles of the whole service. The people knew he was “a nervous type,” and in this case his nervousness showed tremendously and he went into a full panic when he discovered that his microphone had gone dead. He began tapping the microphone while the congregation waited for him to begin. He was unaware that the microphone was now working when he said, “Something is wrong with this microphone,” and the people responded, “And also with you.”
That story is a way for me to bring up the subject of feedback. I need your feedback. I realize that it has only been a few months since y’all completed my first appraisal here at Community of Joy, however, I wanted to let you know that I am open to feedback all of the time. I want you to pass along your comments regarding the worship services, the preaching, teaching, and programs here at the church. I need your overall impressions of what we are trying to do at Community of Joy Lutheran Church. Your input is always welcome and my door is always open (when I’m in the office). Let’s communicate. I want to know how you feel and what you think.
I also want to know each one of you as well as possible. I have visited with about two-thirds of you already (in your homes), and I would like to visit with the other one-third sometime in the coming year. Let me know if you would be amenable to a visit from me (I won’t come if you don’t want me to - I never just “drop-in” on folks).

Things are going very well here at our church. Let’s pray that we may all continue to be energized by the Spirit as we turn the words of our mission statement into reality. Community of Joy Lutheran Church is a family of loving, caring, disciples - boldly serving God with joy!
I thank God for the opportunity to serve as your pastor. Cheryl and I ask for your continued prayers for us, for our church, for our church leaders, and our volunteers. Our God is an awesome God!
In God’s Peace and Love,

LIVING LAST SUPPER
I have some good news and some bad news regarding the Living Last Supper. The good news is that we will have the Living Last Supper at Community of Joy. The bad news is that it won't be this year. We didn't have enough people to volunteer for the drama this year, but I will guarantee that we will get enough folks next year. It will be on April 8, 2009 - so mark you 2009 calendar now and make sure you are there. Meanwhile, I will be recruiting persons for the drama throughout the coming year.
Thanks, Pastor Ross |
